This item is from an estate, being a group of 4 Miners’ Spoons, souvenirs from the famous “Bucket of Blood” Saloon of Virginia City, Nevada. They are dated 1876, the date of its opening. When they were made is unknown, but likely around the late 1930s/early 40s, as that was when the original owner worked in aircraft factories in Los Angeles, and is thought to have visited Virginia City in next door Nevada. Could have been earlier (or, later). They look to have rarely or never been polished since they were new. They are marked Sterling and a maker’s mark is present. The spoons are richly embossed, with many depictions of mining life and processes (see detailed photos). They weigh 5 common ounces together, 1 1/4 oz each, and are 5 3/4 in length.
