A rare American sterling silver and enamel souvenir spoon. It is hallmarked STERLING along with the makers mark of JA Merrill & Co who operated in Portland from 1865 to 1956. I would date this to c1900. It has been superbly designed with the terminal depicting Henry Wadsworth Longfellow an American poet and the bowl being enamelled with the image of Lpngfellows Home in Portland, ME. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits distortions and repairs. It measures over 5.75 inches (14.8cms) long by 1.25 inches (3.1cms) wide and weighs 30 grams. A very interesting piece.
