This is a very pretty huge vintage sterling silver asparagus serving fork made by Durgin, a popular, high-end American maker, a company later acquired by Gorham. It very shiny and is in a classic olive-like pattern called Navarre, introduced in 1909. It is marked “Sterling” with the fancy D hallmark for Durgin. It is also stamped with the old retailer’s name, Hodgson, Kennard & Co. Retailers quit stamping their names on silver by about the 1920’s. This would be great for serving a lot of foods, if you’re so inclined. As long as you don’t use it for digging in the yard or some other unsuitable use, it should be fine for at least another 100 years or so! It is about 9-1/2 long and heavy for its size. Engraving: R on the front of the handle. If that’s not your initial, you could always say you inherited it from your uncle Rufus Roger Ransbottom. Weight: A very hefty 118.6 gram. Priority is also available. Priority and Express are also available. Any white, dark or other off-color spots are camera flash or reflection. Please bear in mind that color can vary from monitor to monitor. The item “Antique Durgin Navarre 9-1/2 Asparagus Fork Sterling Silver 1909 118.6 Grams” is in sale since Wednesday, August 26, 2020.
