This listing is for a rare figural sterling silver souvenir spoon of the Cripple Creek Gold Mine in Colorado. The top part of the handle is designed with bend to show-off its 3-dimension decoration. At the top is the sun rising above 2 mountains above the gold mine with a rotating crank handle that would have had a rope attached to bring up gold or bring down supplies as well as figural gold nuggets that are made of agate. The handle has been made into the shape of a sluice which was used in the recovery of gold from the mines. In the gold-washed bowl is a picture of several miners working in the “CRIPPLE CREEK” mine. This spoon measures 5 3/8 and weighs 27 grams or 0.86 troy ounces. The back of the handle is plain and is marked “STERLING”. One of the photos shows pictures from the original patent application from 1893 for this spoon. It was designed by Frederick F. Horn of Colorado Springs, CO. It says the handle has agate on it which is meant to represent the gold nuggets. It is in wonderful estate condition except that according to the patent application the original spoon had a small chain and bucket that was attached to the the crank handle and went down the length of the sluice into the bowl, but it is now missing. Please see the photos for more detail and feel free to ask any questions.
