The handle has the original state seal/motto of an eagle holding a banner inscribed,’Here We Rest’. This seal was introduced after the Civil War during the period known as Reconstruction, probably c1875 & was replaced about 50 years later.
Antique Early 1800s Coin Silver Serving Spoon Benjamin (B) Barton Alexandria VA 90% Hallmarked on back of handle “B Barton”, tested as 90% Silver. Engraved initials on front of handle appear to be “EM”, 2 piece construction. The spoon weight is approximately 54 grams, and it is approximately 9.25 long. In good used condition with signs of age, wear, use, and oxidation, some small dents and uneven wear to bowl, please see photographs for condition details.
