This antique very heavy and of the highest quality sterling silver spoon from New York dating to years around 1900 features on the handle figural depiction of St. John with American eagle in front of him. The spoon bowl is features extremely detailed view of church building (it is The DIVINE Cathedral in New York). It certainly qualifies as an antique, being more than 100 years old! One of the marks on the back of the spoon is an “S” with wings on it, which is the mark of George W. Shiebler, who worked in silver in New York in the latter part of the 19th century. He was known for his creative designs and high quality workmanship – therefore, Shiebler’s silver is highly collectible today. The spoon feels solid and heavy, measures 6-1/4 long (159 mm), weights 58.7 grams. The markings on the back of the spoon are STERLING, has the Shiebler hallmark and PAT.
